This phone mount for your Steam Deck is actually incredibly cool
Right upfront: Mechanism sent me this unit to review!
This is the Mechanism Phone Mount. It's a nifty attachment for Mechanism's DeckMate or compatible mount points. The phone mount provides a secure way to have your phone readily accessible while gaming on your Steam Deck.
I'm very pleased with how this device works. Though I foolishly adhered a mounting puck to the back of my phone before realizing the mistake that I made.
The way this works is simple: connect the "mechanism" to your Deckmate. Then you can magnetically attach your phone to the other end. Some phones (like my Samsung Galaxy Note 9) are fully compatible with the magnetic surface right out of the box. By my Pixel 4A 5G--my daily driver, mind you--is not "MagSafe compatible". (I'm guessing it has to do with Qi charging compatibility.)
Anyway, for phones that do not have such built-in compatibility, you can simply adhere the included magnetic ring and you're off to the races.
At the end of the phone mount shaft there's also a 1/4-20 tripod screw. This is neat for a number of reasons. Not the least of which is the versatility this provides. You can flip the mount around and connect your Deck to a tripod, for some reason. But it also gives you endless possibilities of what you can attach to the Deck!
This phone mount also has a feature which I didn't touch on in the video: "GoPro Geometry."
See, the little fingers on both ends of the mount are fully compatible with GoPro mounts.
Finally, this mounting Mechanism includes a new feature as well: the Ultra-Secure Lock. This little lock must be unclasped before the mechanism will detach from its mate.
All-in-all, for the versatility this attachment provides I'd say it's well worth the $29 asking price.
