Starting Today You Can Finally Get Your Hands On the 90's Handheld of Your Dreams Thanks to JSAUX's Color Back Plates

The Steam Deck is fantastic at emulating old consoles but now it can even look like one.

Starting Today You Can Finally Get Your Hands On the 90's Handheld of Your Dreams Thanks to JSAUX's Color Back Plates

Prepare to relive the 90s because JSAUX's color transparent back plates are officially available to order starting today. Originally announced in an email to previous back plate owners, the color back plates are the same price as the original at $30 and come in red, green, brown, blue, and my favorite purple. These back plates have inspired some to mod their Steam Deck with external fans and even RGB lights (although the original modder warns against it now).

Some added RGB to their Steam Deck using JSAUX’s transparent back plate and we’re living for it.
The Steam Deck modding scene is already taking off thanks to 3rd party accessories.

Growing up in the 90s I remember seeing transparent Game Boy Colors everywhere, notably in the one Pokemon car crushing commercial (remember when Nintendo ads were violent?). Over the years there have been some great special edition consoles and I hope later down the line we see Valve release at least one limited edition Steam Deck. Until then, we have 3rd parties and the modding community to add a bit of panache to our favorite Linux gaming handheld. If you're interested in picking up a back plate, you can head down below.
